Hastings set for a return to action

Adam Hastings is set to return against Ospreys
Adam Hastings is set for a return to action after over two months out when Glasgow take on ospreys at Scotstoun on Saturday.

The Scotland stand-off has been on the sidelines since sustaining a nasty facial injury against the Scarlets

Lock forward JP du Preez is another player who is in the mix to make his first appearance in 18 months after a serious knee injury.

Sione Vailanu is also on the verge of a return to action after more than a year out but this weekend's game may be a game too soon for the Tongan.

"Adam will be one of the players to return," Glasgow assistant coach Nigel Carolan confirmed.

"He's cleared all of his return to play. Which position he might feature in is to be determined. Also JP will hopefully make his first appearance in 18 months.

"We hope to have him involved for the weekend as well. Sione Vailanu is back training fully and is very close to returning. I think this weekend might be just one game too close but too tight for him. Again, it's not to be rushed. He's had quite a serious injury with his knee.

"He's been out a long time so we want to make sure that when he does come back it's in his best interest and he's fully fit and comfortable with how he can show up."

There was less positive news, however, with Josh McKay picking up an ankle injury in the win against the Dragons.

"Josh unfortunately did his syndesmosis in the Dragons game," Carolan confirmed.

"He had surgery last Monday so he'll just go through the normal. It could be up to eight weeks but I think we'll see him before the end of the season.

"We've got Ollie Smith back and he's starting to integrate back into the squad. I know he's playing 13 at the moment but he's on the field, he's getting minutes and it's great for him again just to get another perspective. He's going to be another good option for us at fullback while Josh is in recovery."

Asked if Kyle Steyn could return this weekend, Carolan said: "No, this game is definitely a game too early for him. He hasn't integrated back into team training yet.

"He's just managing his recovery and his rehab so he's at the latter stages of that and hopefully I think it's the Munster game we'll be looking at."

Jack Mann, Euan Ferrie and Jamie Bhatti are available for Glasgow this weekend after being released from the Scotland camp and will be available for selection.

Nathan McBeth, who was a late addition to the Scotland squad as cover for Rory Sutherland, is also available to Franco Smith. However, George Horne has been retained by the national team.
