The incident happened after just a few minutes in the lead up to Leicester's opening try. Venter was grabbed around the neck by Leicester's Dan Cole and reacted by putting his hand into Cole's face, allegedly making contact with the eye area. Cole dramatically put his hands to his face in reaction but was able to continue. No action was taken at the time but reports claim that after their heavy defeat Leicester made an official complaint to the citing commissioner.
EPCR (European Professional Club Rugby) have now cited Venter to appear in front of a disciplinary panel via video conference on Tuesday.
If found guilty Venter could face a lengthy ban that could see him miss a number of key matches in the run-in, including Friday night's Champions Cup quarter-final away to Leinster.
