Everyone (with the exception of HonestEck) seems to have had a great day and the Supporters Club had some very positive feedback.
However as everyone is entitled to their opinion, and Eck raised some particular points I'll do my best to address them.
Home-made merchandise The Supporters Club merchandise that was available to buy separately from the supporters pack (the bugs and window hangers) was professionally designed and produced for us by our sponsor Adamson Design. Come and have a look on game night and make up your own mind. Bearing in mind membership is only £10 (£5 for Juniors) the available budget for merchandise is limited, and we wish to ensure value for money in the areas the members have told us are most important to them e.g. travel package to the Edinburgh game.
Prizes only fit for alcoholics The raffle prizes were well balanced and reflected donations from our sponsors and others. While there were alcohol related prizes (namely crate of Deuchars, Waxy O'Connor's merchandise and a bottle of champagne) there was also a signed Heinekin Cup ball, £20 Greaves voucher, Junior Supporters Club T-shirt and a cuddly toy. No one was required to take an alcohol related prize if they did not wish to do so and could have selected an alternative from the other non-alcohol related ones.
Supporters Club logo to include a pint glass and a broken horned helmet Malky the Warrior has had a long history supporting the team. He first appeared in match day programmes several season ago. His creator Heather offered him as the logo for the Supporters Club as he had struck a chord with many, reflecting the informal image the club was wanting to encourage and a sense of humour among the fans. The Supporters Club committee have taken a sensible approach to his use, and that of our sponsors, Deuchars and Waxy O'Connor's as evidence by the use of the 'Drink Aware' logo on all publicity materials.
Does the SRU aprove of the alcoholic viking logo? Both the SRU and local Glasgow management have been supportive of the Supporters Club identity as shown in their willingness to display the banner on the TV gantry at games at Hughenden and at the new ground at Firhill. There has been no objection from any clubs to Glasgow supporters displaying the banner or flag at away games (with the exception of Edinburgh at Murrayfield but that wasn't because of the alcohol related content). Beari in mind both competitions the Warriors play in are sponsored by alcoholic drinks companies. It should also be noted that the Supporters Club is a completely independent entity from the SRU, and while we work in partnership with them, our actions bear no reflection on them.
Kids beware The Junior Supporters Club (open to under 18s) has it's own identity and logo which isused in all correspondence, publicity and forms. It also has it's own sponsor, namely, Greaves Sports and has no link to either of our alcohol related sponsors. When our web pages are fully up and running, the Junior Club will have its own page which will contain only age appropriate content.
The Supporters Club takes very seriously it's responsibility in ensuring a balanced but appropriate image is provided of the Warriors fans. We welcome any suggestions or assistance that could continue our growth. Should anyone have any queries or suggestions, please feel free to contact the committee at members@gwsc.org.uk.
