April 25, 2026Stormers 48 - 12 Glasgow WarriorsUnited Rugby Championship match played at DHL Stadium on Saturday April 25th 2026 | No comments
![]() Despite returning from South Africa empty handed, Kyle Steyn says there's no need to panic Glasgow Warriors went down to a heavy defeat to DHL Stormers this afternoon. The win sees Stormers take over from Warriors at the top of the URC table. It's been a disheartening couple of weeks for Warriors with their Champions Cup campaign ending at the hands of Toulon and their URC hopes being dealt a severe blow in South Africa. Early tries from Ntuthuko Mchunu - who crossed twice - and Evan Roos put the hosts in control, while Glasgow responded through Ollie Smith and Gregor Hiddleston to stay in contention before the break. After half-time, however, the Stormers pulled away. Ruhan Nel, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, and Keke Morabe all added tries as the South African side surged to a convincing win. The home team set the tone from the outset. Mchunu opened the scoring with a powerful finish from a set piece, then added a second from a driving maul to help Stormers build a 17-0 lead. Despite being down to 14 men with Jack Dempsey in the sin bin, Glasgow showed resilience. A sharp break from Sione Tuipulotu set up Smith for a well-taken try, offering a glimmer of hope. That momentum was quickly halted when the Stormers capitalised on a loose ball from a high kick, launching a slick counter-attack that ended with Roos brushing off Kyle Rowe to score. Glasgow did respond again before the interval. After Cobus Reinach was sin-binned for stopping an attack near his own line, Hiddleston powered over to cut the deficit to 12 points at half-time. Feinberg-Mngomezulu extended the lead early in the second half with a long-range penalty, and although Glasgow threatened through Ben Afshar, a handling error from Patrick Schickerling ended the move. Adam Hastings was later shown a yellow card for a high tackle, and the Stormers made the extra man count. Feinberg-Mngomezulu chipped through expertly for Nel to collect and score the bonus-point try. The fly-half then capped an outstanding individual display - finishing with 23 point - by scoring himself, before Morabe completed Glasgow's misery with a try from a powerful rolling maul. Glasgow Warriors captain Kyle Steyn insists there is no panic within the squad. Following a heavy, eight-try defeat to the Lions in Johannesburg, Glasgow endured another tough outing against the Stormers. The back-to-back losses saw them surrender their position at the top of the table. Across the two fixtures, Franco Smith's side conceded 14 tries and 102 points, coming away empty-handed from the double-header. Reflecting on the performances, Steyn told Premier Sports: "We came here, we lost the key battles both weeks, we lost set-piece, we lost the kicking game and then we coupled that with just too many errors and an ill-discipline, particularly in the first 40 of both games and it's just tough to build any rhythm or any momentum. Credit to both teams, they were pretty good at putting us away. "There's no need to panic. It's a long season and these things happen. We've got a week to regroup now, and then we've got two more games, so it's just about sharpening up for that."
