Brown started at No.8 in Saturday's win over a resurgent Fiji at Murrayfield. The Fijians arrived in Edinburgh after a heavy defeat to England but Brown says Scotland expected a reaction from the Pacific islanders.
"The message all week was that Fiji are a top quality side and the result against England last week probably didn't reflect that, the quality that they do have. We knew they were going to come out of the gate flying, they're very physical, they've got athletes that can create anything from anywhere and we just knew that we had to put the work in early, build that work, and we knew that come second half, last 20, that that work was going to pay off, and it did today.
"I think it was probably similar in the Argentina game as well. I can't remember what the score was at half time, but it was definitely close. We know that the way that we play, it puts teams on the back foot, it really makes them tired, and it's a fast, quick style of play.
"We're always rolling onto the ball, trying to move defences around and it is really hard to defend like that. If we can hold the ball and keep a breakdown smooth, then with multi-options they're going to struggle. I think today they did a really good job, we previewed again their breakdown threats, they've got jackelers across the park, and they probably got a good few today, but I think overall we managed to keep on the front foot and keep a quick ball."
The Glasgow Warriors forward has established himself as a regular in Gregor Townsend's squad, covering both the second and back row. While he acknowledged setbacks, including defeats to Argentina in November and Italy in the Six Nations, he believes Scotland have responded well during this summer's Nations Championship.
"It's not been all plain sailing. We've had some downs, Argentina at home, but I feel like this group is so tight and so good.
"I know that most teams say that, and most players will say that, but I truly believe that we are so tight and we have the leaders in the game plan and do take these learnings from these games."
Brown said victory over Argentina in Cordoba helped erase the pain of Scotland's dramatic collapse against the Pumas at Murrayfield last autumn, when they squandered a 21-point lead.
"Argentina away was a big one for us," he said.
"We had a lot of hurt in the Autumn after that game, and to put that right [was important].
"Looking back at the season, that All Blacks game at home was probably one that got away from us, so to have them at home again is really exciting.
"I think with this group, I've not been in for too long, but even gaining more experience playing against the best in the world, I'm realising that we can go toe-to-toe with them and that the gap isn't that big."
With another autumn of heavyweight fixtures ahead before next year's World Cup, Brown believes Scotland have the chance to prove they can beat the leading nations.
"At the beginning of the campaign, Gregor put up all the fixtures we'll have before the World Cup, and there's some brilliant opportunities to test ourselves against the best in the world and go get some big wins.
"I think that's something as a squad that we've been chatting about, it's been so close so many times, and we want to cross that line.
"All the talk last week at half time, when we were drawing with South Africa, was this is our time and we're desperate to get some of those big results."
Brown is also determined to cement his place in Scotland's 33-man World Cup squad after making his debut on the 2024 summer tour.
"It looks like something really exciting to be part of and hopefully get something done for Scotland."
