A New Zealand U21 internationalist, at 5ft 11in and 14st 9lb, he is the sort of player that Kiwi Searancke, Glasgow's coach, was describing last week as missing from the squad. Naufahu has been playing in British rugby for the past few months, having joined Leicester but his playing opportunities with them have been limited and he is understood to be keen to move on. Naufahu has joined Glasgow for an open ended trial period but will not be available to play for Glasgow in their remaining European Cup matches this season, he should be able to face Edinburgh in the Boxing Day clash at Hughenden.
"Joe has worked a fair bit with our coach, Kiwi Searancke, in New Zealand age-grade rugby so, when he became available, Kiwi was keen to make him an offer. We have been talking to Joe and his agent for the past three or four weeks," David Jordan, Glasgow's chief executive told The Herald.
"We are certainly hoping that he will earn a place in the squad beyond this season," Jordan confirmed. "I don't think we would have brought anyone up here on a purely short-term basis."
