Gordon Simpson is backing under-fire Glasgow coach Kiwi Searancke and has urged his team-mates to end their slump by turning over Edinburgh on Friday.

Searancke has been criticised in the wake of his side's dreadful display against Llanelli on Friday.

Simpson said: "We know what the coaches want to do and we're totally behind them. All that is destroying us at the moment is the basics. Our ball retention and tackling have been poor. Every player has to get those essentials right.

"At the moment, we're not doing that. We are not responding to the pressure that is put on us and we have got to address our problems in ball retention and missed tackles. It killed us against Llanelli and also in previous weeks.

"We have just got to keep working away at it. I think there are a lot of things in our game which are very good and are working well at the moment. They are the same old mistakes.

"But if we can sort out our problems then I think there is a good chance we can get back to where we were earlier in the season. If we can score some tries we can get some momentum going and push through this difficult stage.

"I think every team goes through this at some point and we have just got to knuckle down and get through it. I'm looking forward to the Edinburgh game. Hopefully we can put in a good performance and try to build up the confidence a little."
