Mattie Stewart, the Northampton and Scotland prop yesterday revealed that he is discussing a move to play his rugby north of the border.

"My contract is up at the end of the season and I am looking at the possibility of playing in Scotland," he said.

His comments came as he explained his absence from the Scotland A team lineup to play Ireland A at Stirling on Saturday. Stewart is recovering from injury and wants more time to regain his match fitness but in the aftermath of the unhappy departure of Budge Pountney, Stewart was eager to confirm his committment to Scotland.

The prop has been mentioned in the press as a possible target for Warriors although with the retirement of George Graham, Borders could may be interested in Stewart's availability.
