Glasgow's squad looks like it will have a greater local influence than in recent times. Euan Murray, the Glasgow Hawks prop, is reported to have joined Glasgow. Murray has played a number of games for Glasgow over the last couple of seasons and it's no surprise he has signed on a more permanent basis.

Graeme Morrison has also signed, while James McLaren and Gordon McIlwham are still in discussions over proposed returns.

But David Jordan admitted: "We need good-quality, experienced men in the front row and middle row and while it would be our preference to have Scots, we are definitely prepared to sign foreign players for those roles."

Hooker Simon Gunn, who joined Borders from Canterbury last summer, could switch from Netherdale to Hughenden, while rumours are rife over other Scottish-qualified exiles on Glasgow's list.
