Graeme is ready to make the step up

Graeme Morrison has admitted that his pro contract for Glasgow Warriors only arrived thanks to Sean Lineen's promotion to the Glasgow coaching role.

Glasgow's former coach, Kiwi Searancke, watched the Glasgow Hawks centre during the junior Six Nations Championship, but there was no indication that a contract would be offered. As Morrison admits in today's Sunday Herald, "I hadn't banked on it at all. In fact, I'd resigned myself to playing with Hawks for another year."

Lineen was obviously watching because he recognised something that the Scottish Institute of Sport had missed when they had declined to offer the youngster a place.

"With him (Lineen) having played No 13 I'm learning a lot," Graeme admitted to his namesake Iain. "I guess you could call him a bit of a mentor."
