"I did contact sessions with Glasgow last week and have stepped up the intensity this week," he confirmed. "If it isn't 100%, I will tell Matt and make myself unavailable for selection. But I'm confident everything will be all right.
"I was disappointed to miss the Italy game, but I thought I would be out for six months at first, so I'm happy to be here now.
"I was watching the Italy game on TV in the house. As soon as they scored, I started doing chores around the house. I'm not a great watcher of rugby. I felt absolutely helpless.
"There is an added incentive to get back in the side this weekend. Andy Mower is coming back from injury and Ally Hogg is growing with confidence in every game. I need to be playing week-in and week-out to keep ownership of the jersey and am desperate to play against France this weekend.
"What the public are saying is exactly what the players are saying, as well. It is not like we live in a dream world and think we are better than we are. We know we performed poorly in Italy. It is up to us to rectify that against France and then Ireland in the final week. But it will not be easy against two of the best teams in the world.
"Any team that can leave Olivier Magne on the bench must be doing something right. It is pretty daunting. They will strangle you for possession and, as soon as you make a mistake, they will pounce and can score a try from anywhere on the park.
"I'd say that, at the moment, they are the best team in the world. But I relish the prospect of playing against these guys as a professional rugby player. It is good to see how you square up to the likes of Olivier Magne."
