Cammy told The Herald: "I'm very, very lucky to have escaped with what I got."
Cammy damaged his left ankle after coming on as a replacement during the 41-5 defeat by Queensland Reds.
"I could easily have had my leg broken in three or four places. Certainly I could have been joining Simon Taylor in long-term rehab because it was a similar type of incident, so my knee could easily have blown up the way his did," Cammy said.
"I was worried even before I hit the ground because of the crack I heard when it happened. My studs caught in the ground with my whole body going the wrong way. The medics have suggested that I go out and buy a lottery ticket."
"I made the stupid mistake of saying in January that I had not had an injury for three years but they say these things come in threes so I hope that's it for a while," he said.
No chances will be taken on regaining fitness to lead Glasgow into the coming season, in what he has always intended would be his last season.
"I'm seeing a surgeon on Wednesday and he'll decide then if it needs an operation or just rehab," said Cammy. "There is no way I want to be going back there in five weeks with the ankle as loose as it is now."
Scotland have already lost Glasgow's Euan Murray due to a thigh injury.
