Kevin Tkachuk has joined Glasgow
Glasgow have confirmed the signing of Kevin Tkachuk, the Canadian prop forward.

He is to join Glasgow on a two-year contract after playing with Pertemp Bees, the English National League first-division club based in Birmingham.

Tkachuk played four games for Canada in the Rugby World Cup in Australia in October and November last year, scoring a try against Wales. In all, the 6ft, 18st forward has played 24 internationals for Canada and scored four tries. The 27-year-old prop is also an Oxford blue.

"We've been looking for an experienced prop," David Jordan, Glasgow's chief executive, said today in announcing the signing. "I'm sure Kevin’s the man to help to bring on our young props."

Tkachuk, who was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, played for Oxford in the past three University matches against Cambridge. While there, he gained a masters’ degree in history.

It was after the University match at Twickenham in December last year that he joined Pertemp Bees. He has also played for Prairie Fire, Saskatchewan's Rugby Canada Super League team, as well as the Capilano and Castaway Wanderers clubs in British Columbia and Henley Hawks in England

Warriors are getting a hardened member of the front row club, sound scrummager, a bloke who loves to run with the 'puck' and score tries. Best of all a solid club man. Good luck, T-Bone.

Is Tkachuk a Polish name, cause it's very unusual one.

'Tkachuk' is a Ukrianian name. The name was brought over to North America in the early 1900's, possibly 1903-1908. The young man, Tkachuck, was a teenager when he came to Canada via Ellis Island N.Y. He had a married a Ukrainian girl named Katherine and had a large family and settled in Insinger, Saskatchewan.
