Celtic League champions Llanelli Scarlets will take on English and European champions London Wasps in a Battle of Britain curtain-raiser to the coming season.

The Zurich Premiership and Heineken Cup winners are set to arrive at Stradey Park next month for the Anglo-Celtic challenge match.

Friday, August 27 or Saturday 28 - depending on television requirements - has been pencilled in for a game that is sure to attract a large crowd.

Both sides boast an array of international stars, although some may be rested after an arduous season that has included a World Cup, Six Nations and summer tours.

The match is set to throw up some intriguing individual duels, including at No. 8 where Scott Quinnell could come face to face with Lawrence Dallaglio, at hooker with Robin McBryde packing down against Samoan Trevor Leota and at scrum-half with Dwayne Peel facing new Wasps signing Matt Dawson - former Wales captain Rob Howley is to undergo surgery on a wrist injury.
