Dan beats Tommy's Celtic League record

Dan Parks is da bomb
Dan Parks overtook his predecessor, Tommy Hayes' record of 22 points, by scoring 24 of Glasgow's 34 points in tonight's win over Ulster.

Tommy Hayes scored 22 points against Bridgend two years ago, and the record has stood ever since.

Dan scored two of the four Glasgow tries, slotted all four conversions, and also added a couple of penalties for good measure. He was a deserving Man of the Match. Dan was typicaly modest after the match: "Like anyone I like to score tries" he said afterwards "and tonight their defence was sort of rushing and some gaps opened up and I was lucky enough to see them and took them.

"We've been looking forward to a performance tonight to prove to ourselves and our supporters that we are a good side. It's always nice to score tries especially when we win the game.

But it was by no means a one man show! Amongst the stand out performances, Scott Lawson, Kevin Tkachuk, Dan Turner and the full back row of Donnie Macfadyen, Cammy Mather and captain Jon Petrie were impressive. Glasgow's scrambling defence in the second half was outstanding and there were marked improvements to be noted in the set piece.

Competiton for places is becoming increasingly fierce, with players like Andy Wilson, John Beattie, Dave Millard and Scott Lawson competing for starting places. Scott came on after 9 minutes for an injured Gordon Bulloch and seemed determined to make the most of his opportunity to impress. With Euan Murray returning from injury, and Lee Harrison, Andy Kelly, and Tkachuk playing well, our front row looks like it will become a force to be reckoned with. Dan Turner, at lock, had a great game, putting in a power of work, and showed fantastic handling skills. After arriving late in the pre-season, he seems to have settled in quickly and has been a reliable member of the pack, with promise for the future. Alongside him, Andy Hall got stuck into the unsavoury chores, and wasn't scared to front up to the abrasive Ulster pack. All this and Nathan Ross, Joe Beardshaw and Paul Dearlove all to return from injury.

It was good to see Euan Murray return to the squad, and his and Dan Parks' flamboyant celebrations after the fourth Glasgow try will hopefully be repeated on a regular fixture to basis! Despite coming off before the end of the game, we hope that Murray is fit for inclusion in next week's squad.

Before the game, the loss of Sean Lamont looked to be a significant blow to tonight's chances. However, Andy Craig stepped up to the mark, both defensively and in attack. His success on Monday with the development squad against Sale seems to have set him up for a good performance in an unfamiliar position, and along with Rory Kerr and Kenny Logan, the back three looked very solid. Similarly, stand off, Calvin Howarth came on at full back and didn't let the defensive pressure slacken. Again Glasgow have players like Gareth Maclure and Scott Barrow to call on when their injuries clear up.

Our centres also had a good game, with Graeme Morrison and Andy Henderson tackling and attacking well, with the gain line being broken every time they had the ball. An excellent way to kick start G-Dog's birthday celebrations!

Sam Pinder was a constant nuisance to the opposition, and his partnership with Dan Parks looks to be developing nicely. His break is recognised by the other teams, but it is very difficult for them to predict and stop it.

With a number players likely to be on international duty later next month it's good to see that there are players ready to step in.

On behalf of every Glasgow supporter, our thanks go out to every member of the Glasgow playing and backroom squad for a memorable victory! Long may this form continue and bring on the Saints!
