November 06, 2004First Scotland try for Sean Sean Lamont scored his first Scotland try today against Australia Glasgow's Sean Lamont scored his first international try today but it couldn't help Scotland avoid a 31-14 defeat to Australia.
Sean scored Scotland's first try as the home team staged a recovery after a nightmare first 40 minutes saw them go in 28-0 down at the interval. Sean described Scotland's first half defending as rubbish and said: "I'm pleased to score my first try at Murrayfield, but by then it was no more than a consolation try." He was good for you, claiming you are British Lions potential. Andy knows what he's talking about. It may be the DHSFPRFC connection. He is also the only commentator, Scots or non-Scots, to pronounce your surname correctly, (the macho way). It was a bit long-winded, that may have been the problem. 'Lamont' is pronounced as 'Lam-mond' with equal emphasis on both syllabi in Scotland. 'La Mont' is considered to be an effete, affectation by most Scots; although other English speakers use the 'affectation', ie the US, Ireland, England and the 'Old Commonwealth'. Probably Uineill may supply additional info., he is good at spelling it seems! I noticed that both 'Reporting Scotland' reporters, Allison and Kirsteen got it right tonight, as did Andy Nicol on the day. Yep, Andy is the best Rugby commentator on the TV!
