Steve Swindall wants to pursue a career in rugby
Steve Swindall's performances for Glasgow have left many observers claiming that the Hawks' man should be offered a pro-contract as soon as possible to avoid him being snapped up by teams down south.

Glasgow have called up Steve on an almost weekly basis over the last month and the player himself has no doubts what he would do if an offer of a full-time contract was forthcoming. He tells Neil Drysdale in today's Herald: "Nobody owes me a living but I'm a Glasgow boy and, if the pro team was to produce a contract, I would grab it with both hands," said Steve.

"I have no plans to move but I will if it means I can pursue a career in rugby, because that is my goal.

"Realistically, I can't acheive what I want while I am an amateur. I broke a leg last winter, which didn't help, but doing the pre-season training with the professional lads this summer was an eye-opener.

"We crawled along the coastline and ran up and down sand dunes for ours and basically it was a case of 'Don't stop until you're sick.' However, I have the mental and physical toughness to cope with these types of challanges."

It would be great for rugby in the city if Steve could face more of these challenges in a Glasgow jersey.

Well the SRU let Smith leave to replace him with....? Its a bit of a shame as he is a fantastic player. Along with Barclay, we would have some good young talent. But the SRU isn't interested in good young talent are they? Only paying foriegn players to come in a do absolutely nothing. Laney? MacDougall?

Hope that Swindall is offered a contract, as he has been performing well for Glasgow over the last few weeks - the development of young talent is crucial if Scottish rugby is to get itself out of its current rut!
