Thoughts turn to Toulouse

Calvin's great form has put Dan under pressure to regain his starting place in the team
This Friday's match against Toulouse may not mean anything in the sense of progressing in the Heineken Cup, but it still means a lot to the players wanting to take something from the European competition.

Talking to the timesonline.co.uk, Calvin Howarth says: "It’s a hard game as Toulouse are arguably the best club team in the world. But they will not relish Glasgow in early January and if we can beat them, we can travel to Northampton with confidence and give ourselves the experience to make a mark on the competition next season."

Calvin has been in great form recently, and is currently making Dan Parks sweat over selection for the squad to face Toulouse.

"I knew I would get four games in November when Dan was away on international duty. I thought that I had nothing to lose so I would just go out there and have a bit of fun. It worked but that is all I have been doing, just playing my own game."

"I have more freedom now to do what I want. In the past I was trying to be too structured and put too much pressure on myself," he says. "In the last six weeks I have relaxed, played what is in front of me. I’ve given 100% and it seems to have worked."

Fans will have to wait until later in the week to see if Calvin can hold off Dan for the Toulouse game.

Remember Old Anniesland in February 1998? Hawks beat Toulouse with such stalwarts as Tommy Hayes, Glenn Metcalfe, Steve Begley, Shnozz, Starkie, Wee Doc etc.
