Posted by hugh on February 18, 2005 08:08 AM | Reply to this comment JUST FOR THE RECORD HAWKS DO NOT WANT TO STAND IN THE WAY OF ANY YOUNG PLAYER WHO WANTS TO GAIN A PRO CONTRACT WITH GLASGOW WE HAVE HAD 27 PLAYERS FROM HAWKS GETTING PRO CONTRACTS WITH GLASGOW SINCE 1997 WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO WIN THE B.T. PREMIERSHIP FOR GLASGOW RUGBY--THEREIN LIES THE CHALLENGE. Posted by Phall on February 18, 2005 04:26 PM | Reply to this comment Challenge it. Heriot's have had their game postponed, Hawks should be no different. Posted by Big G on February 18, 2005 08:28 AM | Reply to this comment Challenge it is Hugh, I'll be at Biggar cheering on the hawks. Posted by Alan on February 18, 2005 08:47 PM | Reply to this comment Hugh, I don't understand the SHOUTING on this thread. I too hope that these three guys are give a pro contract at Glasgow Rugby. Posted by McDruid on February 18, 2005 09:29 PM | Reply to this comment Alan doesn't understand rugby. If Fergus, Colin and Stevie, not to mention the twenty plus other players who have graduated to pro rugby via the Glasgow Hawks, had not gained the benefit of coaching and competition at Hawks they would not subsequently have aspired to play pro rugby. While they are at Hawks and until they gain pro contracts, as senior players they have a duty to the club and the other players there who have helped them to progress. If the standard is not thus maintained at Hawks, that club will cease to serve as a stepping stone to a higher level and Glasgow Ws and Scottish rugby will be poorer for it. As players gain from the preceding generation so should they help provide for the next, not push away the ladder as soon as they themselves have climbed it. Posted by McDruid on February 18, 2005 09:34 PM | Reply to this comment A postscript. Hawks are also without Scott Forrest, because John Jeffrey, the Scotland Under-21 manager, has told him to rest up for next week's international. Posted by Alan on February 21, 2005 10:39 PM | Reply to this comment McDruid, keep the rude comments for the forum please ..and don't insult me in public. Posted by hugh on February 22, 2005 09:12 AM | Reply to this comment Thats the very point Alan you should care and so should Glasgow Rugby because unless the relationship between Glasgow Rugby and the Premier clubs who feed them works the current situation of under performance will continue--because you just dont have the money any longer to buy in players. Posted by Alan on February 25, 2005 11:54 PM | Reply to this comment Come on Hugh ..I should care about Hawks winning because I support the pro team? do we all have to support Hawks now? Posted by hugh on February 26, 2005 11:24 AM | Reply to this comment as they are your 2nd xv why not Posted by Alan on February 27, 2005 09:02 PM | Reply to this comment An interesting concept, Hugh. I will give it some thought, although not sure why I shouldn't support a certain Glasgow team south of the river! Posted by weee on February 28, 2005 12:33 PM | Reply to this comment I have a lot of sympathy for Hawks + other clubs. To try and maintain a settled team when players are getting pulled away. However,my sympathy is somewhat tempered by my memory of playing for lower league sides 20 years ago. The top Glasgow clubs showed very little concern about the impact they had on the aspirations of lower clubs by poaching their best players. I recall in particular the obscene scramble to poach Gerry Hawkes from the University after he'd performed so well for Glasgow U21s. There were many others and I don't remember anybody complementing these clubs on how well they'd developed these players. Posted by hugh on February 18, 2005 11:57 PM | Reply to this comment Glasgow rugby means Glasgow rugby not just this troop of pros who are passing through Posted by Duncan on February 19, 2005 01:54 AM | Reply to this comment Who is the team to play Munster, please? Posted by hugh on February 19, 2005 08:58 AM | Reply to this comment Swindall ,Shaw plus 13 others Posted by Highlandbrave75 on February 19, 2005 11:36 PM | Reply to this comment Nice to see the SRU back to their pre SGM mentality. Does any of their SGM agreements stand now or are we back to the pre days?
