In today's Evening News the Glasgow hooker says: "It is important for us to start climbing the rankings and that means beating a side like Wales who are above us in the world," said Gordon.
In the past year, Scotland have beaten Samoa (12th in the rankings), Japan (18th) and Italy (11th). Scotland currently lie ninth with the Welsh seventh.
"Certainly there is a bit more belief and confidence to draw on in proving to ourselves first and foremost we are good rugby players."
Victory over Italy ended an eight-game losing streak in the Six Nations of eight matches and Gordon added: "Once you have tasted a win - and for a lot of the side the Italy match was a first in the Six Nations - it is easier to relax without ever dropping your guard."
"Going out against Italy we took ball forward fearing a mistake - in opposition to Wales we’ll be looking to make things happen more. Through a changed atmosphere of belief it is more likely that we can make our own breaks.
"For example, maybe the two disallowed 'tries' we have scored so far - by Ally Hogg in France and Sean Lamont against Italy - will see the decisions go in our favour because we are that bit more confident in making our moves. It is on things like that that scores can turn."
Glasgow stand-off Dan Parks revealed that he is ready for whatever Wales throw at Scotland on Sunday.
Attending the captain's press conference at the Stirling Management Centre, Stirling University, Dan said: "I'm aware of people's criticism and people are entitled to their own opinion but at the end of the day I'm out there every week trying to do the best for my team and country. Wales play very wide and have players that are capable of spinning the ball wide, we know they will run the ball at us instead of the kicking game that Italy played."
"Our defence will have to be strong and hopefully we'll get our fair share of ball and do some attacking ourselves. It was good to get the confidence from the win against Italy and we have built on that now and we will do whatever we can to win the game, hopefully we have turned a corner."
