John Beattie returns to action after injury
John Beattie, the Glasgow apprentice back-row forward, is in the GHA team for the BT Premier One match against Melrose at Braidholm tomorrow (ko 3.00pm).

John has played 17 games for Glasgow this season, including Heineken Cup matches, but is returning after an injury that had kept him out of contention for the Scotland U21 team's campaign.

John will link up with another Glasgow apprentice, John Barclay, captain of the Scotland under-19 team.

Good Luck to John and all at GHA, this is a big "must win". By all accounts Melrose were absolutely thuggish last week. Rise above Geeha and play the great rugby you are capable of.

John should make a good back row trio with John Barclay and (Kiwi?) Justin Matheson.

I saw Barclay play for GHA against Hawks, and he showed some good openside flank skills against a strong Hawks pack - fighting for the ball at the breakdown, and doing his share of carrying. Might be a good blend with Beattie's power, and some nice running & handling from Matheson.

Was impressed by young AJ McFarlane at 9, and old man Bulloch had a decent game in the midfield too.

GHA showed a lot of spirit, even if Hawks did always look like they could tighten their game up and grind out the victory if they needed to.

Although I'm a disappointed Hawks supporter after the result at Currie, all of us from Glasgow should congratulate GHA on a magnificent fightback and great result against Melrose this afternoon. We need two Premiership One clubs in Glasgow. It's good for competition and popular interest to have local derbies. Well done to Davie Wilson and his young charges!

And with three home games to come they must have given themselves a very good chance of staying up.
