Sean and bother Rory look set to line up together for the first time for Scotland at the weekend, but it seems they are preparing to cut the family ties at their club.
Today's Scotsman reports that Sean has been in talks with Northampton and is keen to test himself in the Zurich Pemiership. Rumours of Northampton's interest in Sean have been circulating since his impressive performance at Franklin's Gardens in the Heineken Cup. Neither Glasgow nor Northampton would comment yesterday.
The Scotsman also claims that Hugh Campbell, the Glasgow coach, has won the race to persuade talented lock Craig Hamilton to return to Scotland from Newcastle on a two-year contract, in the latest step to rebuild the Scottish professional teams.
The 25-year-old was a victim of the Scottish Rugby Union's decision to cut the professional teams from four to two in 1998. He had left his native Dumfries and begun to make a name for himself at West Of Scotland, but the limited opportunities to turn pro persuaded him to accept an offer to join the academy structure at Newcastle Falcons. He has gone on to make 49 appearances in the Zurich Premiership to date and, having been one of the most impressive performers in training, made his international debut for Scotland against Australia on last summer's tour.
However, he has made only six starts this season for Newcastle, as well as appearing seven times from the bench, and with Scotland's Stuart Grimes and veteran Luke Gross ahead of him in the queue for starting berths - and Hamilton hoping to be involved with Scotland at the same times as Grimes - his opportunities to make the next step to experienced professional appeared limited.
He was one of the stars on last summer's tour to Australia and New Zealand with fine displays against Queensland Reds, New South Wales Country and the Waratahs earning him a spot on the bench for the second Test when Grimes was suspended
