Bath Rugby have never faced Glasgow in the Heineken Cup, and are something of an unknown quantity, but the prop refuses to believe that the Scottish side will be the weak link in pool five. As Barnes points out on Bath's official website, Glasgow are top seeds, are very much an improving side and are formidable opposition away from home.
"We have never played Glasgow before, so we do not know all that much about them at the moment," he said. "They are the top Scottish seed and are the top seed in our Pool and will be tough opposition for us.
"The fixtures will come at a key time for us as playing them in successive weeks can really make or break a Heineken campaign. As we are playing them at home first it will give us a chance to lay down a marker, but I am sure that they will want to play their game in Glasgow on a Friday night. However, these are the kind of fixtures that make the Heineken Cup."
