JP has shoulder surgery

Jon Petrie has had surgery on his injured shoulder
Glasgow Warriors captain Jon Petrie has had an operation on his right shoulder following the dislocation he sustained in the Celtic League game against the Dragons on Friday.

JP was operated on by surgeon Gordon MacKay at Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow yesterday.

Glasgow Warriors’ team doctor Gerry Haggerty said: "Jonny had his shoulder put back into place at Glasgow's Western Infirmary on Friday night and yesterday he had surgery to tighten up the capsule. The surgeon, Gordon MacKay, was very happy with the repair."

JP was carried off during the first-half of Glasgow's stormy defeat after an altercation with opposing prop Rhys Thomas.

Referee George Clancy yellow-carded Thomas for his part in the incident.

Having witnessed first hand, well seeing it from the touch line, the bout of fisticuffs between our own Mr Petrie and the Dragons prop Mr Thomas I have to say that the Welshman was fortunate not to be awarded a much deserved red card. As a forward myself and having played against many a druid in my time I, as indeed do we all, know that tempers can get frayed and the occaisional handbag gets thrown. No complaints are necessary or wanted over this practice as it makes for a more exciting and enjoyable game all round and the ale tastes all the sweeter in the third half for it. This incident however struck me as being a little more spitefull than that. Whatever was said between those two I shall never know and I lent my voice to the crowd when they kicked off at each other, and that was when it happened. As Petrie fell backward Ryhs Thomas deliberatly, to my eyes at least, fell and landed on him with his elbow directed at Petries left shoulder/upper chest area. Now I am not suggesting that Thomas deliberatly meant to dislocate Petries shoulder but what I am saying is that he did intend to cause the Warriors Captain injury and that is foul, dangerous and just rather unsporting play. It is not in the traditions of our sport and he should have been properly repremanded for his actions. That said I wish John Petrie all the very best with his recovery and would like to remind him, if he ever happens to read this that he is a vastly respected player by us fans and that he is no doubt required back at work!
GET WELL SOON!
