John Beattie is back for Scotland U21s
Glasgow Warriors' John Beattie and John Barclay will be reunited on Friday night as they line up for Scotland Under-21 against Ireland.

John Beattie will make his first Six Nations start this year having recently recovered from a bout of glandular fever that kept him out of all three matches so far in the championship. John Barclay returns following a head knock sustained against Wales Under-21 in Newport last month.

Coach Iain Paxton said: "This is the back row that we were hoping to have right from the start but unfortunately it wasn't possible. Hopefully they'll produce the level of performance they are capable of and we'll benefit from the experience they've gained from their pro-teams."

Also joining the two Johns in the line up are Warriors James Eddie (lock) and Iain Kennedy (centre).

Excellent news.

No disrespect to the others, but JB and JB should really add a cutting edge to the U21 pack - more pace, and better ball carrying

McDonald showed up well against England, a good scavenging 7. Though the front five were under the cosh for much of the England game, they showed guts and determination - especially when the English were able to bring on some very heavyweight subs, and Scotland (rather worryingly) only seemed to replace one prop. Young and Nimmo seem to be benefitting from a Leicester education (Young showing some good ball skills to go with physical presence). Eddie showed a lot of leadership when it looked like the Scots might really get battered.
Despite looking about half the size of the English front row, Crombie also put in a full shift (and shows a fine talent for annoying the opposition!).
