A 23-year-old utility back who prefers to play scrum-half and outside centre, Max is making a rugby comeback having previously been in the academy set-up at Harlequins, where he got a couple of first-team games before a back injury sidelined him two years ago.
Max has spent his time out of rugby working as a professional golfer in Portugal. During that period, core work on his back appears to have brought about a full recovery and, after playing some sevens last summer, he was keen to get back into the sport properly.
"It was just like when I was speaking to Sean Lamont a few years ago and he told me he had a brother who was a good player," said Sean Lineen in The Herald.
"Thom told me about Max and, while we've not got much scope to make signings at the moment, he is keen for the chance to impress."
Rory Lamont has since followed his big brother into the Scotland team and the recruitment, albeit on trial, of the older Evans maintains a Warriors tradition of fielding brothers in arms, the Lamonts having followed the Bulloch brothers, Gordon and Alan, on to the books.
"Max trained with us yesterday," Sean went on. "He's squatter than Thom, but like him he is quick, keen and brave. Obviously he looks a bit rusty but his skills seem good, too, and he's been working with Margot Wells [wife of Olympic gold medallist Alan] to sharpen up."
The Warriors have back-up matches against Scotland under-20s and Border Reivers this month which should provide opportunities to see Evans in action.
"We'll need players anyway while our internationals are away, so his arrival is working out well all round," Sean observed.
