Bevvy and Barclay train with Scotland

Graeme Beveridge trained with Scotland today
Glasgow Warriors' Graeme Beveridge and John Barclay have joined the Scotland squad for today's training session at Murrayfield.

John, who is in Scotland's A squad for the match with Australia, and Graeme, who has been at the forefront of Glasgow's recent improvement in form, are joined by Borders wing Simon Danielli. Squad members Ally Hogg, Chris Paterson and Mike Blair miss out on today's session.

The squad are preparing for Saturday's opening Autumn Test against Romania at Murrayfield, kick-off 2.30pm.

Well done to the boys! No more than they both deserve. Johnnie has made an outstanding contrinution to Glasgow Warriors since being lobbed in as a pup last season, he now looks and plays like a seasoned campaigner. And the evergreen Bevvy? He has been kicking around the Scotland set up for far too long without being given the real chance he deserves. Yes Cuisiter and Blair are good, but they look decidedly ordinay when they come up against wee bevvy, the stand-out player for Glasgow this season by a long long way!

Go for ot boys and make the Hughenden faithful proud, it will not be long before the likes of big Stevie, Scott Barrow, and Fergus T are in there as well. As a matter of fact, when you look through the current Warriors squad, there are very few weaknesses...we just need it to start clicking on a regular basis and we will be flying.

Earth calling! What planet are you on and how much do you know about rugby? Hee haw by the sounds of it! Beveridge is past it and must surely be a prime candidate to be offloaded at the end of the season. And if as I imagine the 'big Stevie' you are talking about is Swindell then I suggest you watch him a bit more closely the next time he comes on as a sub. Even in the short time he's on he hardly bursts a gut for the team. The comment in the crowd the other night when he came on was ' Glasgow must be trying to slow the game down now!' I might think Hadden is slightly biased towards Edinburgh players but if he chooses Swindell then I'll really think he's lost the plot!

Ah the benefits of a forum like this, even a misguided opinion can be proferred.

My suspicion is that you played your rugby some years ago, (if at all), and the detail of what you see before you at Hughenden is unfortunately lost on you. Thank goodness we have the likes of Frank Hadden, who understands the modern game, at the helm & not you.

No doubt this will trigger another noisy volley without forethought or analysis, however I would council you to change your seat and listen to others with a deeper understanding of our wonderfull game.

Come on, let's have the rest of your reactionary nonsense!

Well Jim you managed to get one thing right - I did indeed play my rugby years ago. When do you intend to start playing? However I am still involved and I would suspect at a higher level than your good self so you should really take your own advice and put a bit of forethought into your comments! You have also assumed that I 'sit' somewhere at Hughenden. Sorry but I prefer to STAND among real rugby people not the likes of yourself. Most of these people - coaches, players, administrators - are of much the same opinion. Beveridge has had his day, he makes bad decisions and is guilty of poor technique in the basic skills of 9 at crucial moments. How you can say he has the upper hand on Blair and Cusiter is laughable! I suggest you take up an offer to do one of the new coaching courses which are just starting up as this might improve your appreciation of 'our wonderful game'!

So those who sit are not real rugby supporters? Mmm. Our crowd can discuss that proposition in the stand at Donnybrook on Friday night or in our seats at Murrayfield on Saturday.

Sic! All of the above boxes already ticked...I suppose it is difficult when you don't know with whom you correspond, you are a mile wide of the mark again, familiar territory for you it would seem.

Now now Jim! Verbal volleys seem to be your area. I didn't say that I thought people who are sitting down are not real rugby people, I said that the people I stand beside are! You really are a sensitive wee soul. I also notice you don't make any apology for presuming that you knew so much about me. Just out of interest what is your involvement in our wonderful game...oh and are you going to start playing soon?

And BTW I think you meant 'counsel' rather than 'council' when you were asking me to change my seat!

My capabilities are in playing and coaching rugby...not as an adept typist/secretary like yourself.

This could all be sorted out with a toe to toe on the half way line at the next home game. I would happily referee it, no eye gouging etc. Let me know if I can help... ; ' )

and all this over Bevvy, its hardly worth it

Posted by realitycheck on November 8, 2006 01:15 PM | Reply to this comment

Thank you! A voice of reason - see Jim, I am not alone in thinking that Beveridge is not the Messiah you seem to think he is. Coaching and playing you say? Admirable and a very difficult task, I can think of few people in Glasgow who would endeavour to fulfil both roles - and I don't think any of them are you! And as for a fight on the HW? Well at my age it would be undignified and I might end up in court for beating up a 'minor' which is what I fear Jim is!

And I don't think correct usage of words is purely a matter of being a good typist.I can also think of one or two secretaries that would happily take you to task on that one!

Jim, please calm down. reality check has the right to an opinion on a player, as we all do. Personally, I agree and think Beveridge is past it. He's lucky he's so small, cos if he wasn't , at his age I think he would struggle to get down to whip his erratic( at best ) pass away. It's sad that he is classed as the 3rd best scrum half in the country at the moment. How bad would you feel if he got in the squad ahead of you? I would hope he doesn't get a contract at the end of the season. This is for the teams sake, and the stand offs chiropractor!!!

You hope he doesn't get a contract at the end of the season? So, who would take his place then? Pinder? Who has single handedly lost us games in the past or would you rather have Lawson there or Murray?

Bevy isn't the best N0.9 in Scotland but he is the best in the Glasgow squad, by a long way and he probably is the third choice for Scotland. To say that he isn't even deserving of a contract is just silly talk.

I hoped they would sign Rory Lawson at the end of last season. He's miles better than Beveridge. In fact, I'd rather hefin o'hare played scrum-half than Beveridge!!!

HoH isn't a scrum half and you also called for HIS contract last week saying he was substandard, why would his form improve in a strange position? He is playing well and in a good position for him, when Evans comes back he may play in the center but it looks like we've got bevy for a while yet and we could do worse.
