Good to see Callum in the No.8 berth. He had a couple of very good games at the end of last year, as did Dewey. It's interesting that there's no stand in at Fly-Half although Paterson could slot in there if things went wrong. Glad to see that Godman isn't on the bench, his tackling against Australia was pathetic and his all round game was not a lot better. What has happened to Gordon Ross?

Ross isn't getting much game-time in France so he's out of the picture.

I heard somewhere that Ross was doing very well in France, that he was top point scorer or something? Yet now that I think of it.....no, he clearly isn't!

Excellent to see Rory on the bench - good luck to all the Glasgow boys at Twickenham this weekend!

Good to see a Scottish bench that has the potential to make an impact late int the game. Great to see 5 Glasgow boys in the 22 - and there's more to come if we keep up the progress made so far this season!

What about Nikki Walker?

Posted by Garyipa on January 30, 2007 05:09 PM | Reply to this comment

I'm with you Hughes, BIG mistake in omitting him

cant believe johhnie beattie hasnt been put in, he has been one of glasgow's best forwards this year, he is much better than kelly brown and david callum. And when he played in his debut he was really good, and is the only consistant starter fot glasgow in their back-row!!

Posted by Garyipa on January 30, 2007 05:30 PM | Reply to this comment

How much of Brown and Callum have you seen???

Posted by Hugues on January 30, 2007 07:35 PM | Reply to this comment

Beattie had a brilliant start International V Romania, and as buckett sais he must be good for Glasgow.
I've seen Kelly Brown in Autumn tests, HC Border Reivers v Biarritz, and i think he played very well too.
I've read a comment about Hamilton, apprently he is the 4th choice of second row in Leicester, if that right...

Yes, Hamilton IS 3rd or 4th choice for Leicester but he is an ogre of a man which is why he's in. We're going to miss Hines and need some muscle in the pack.

Sorry Bucket, Callum and Brown have my vote. I just don't think Beatie is all he's cracked up to be. He's done well for Glasgow but I wouldn't have put him ahead of these two either. FH has done another good job in selecting this team. Oh, is Webster still injured? If not he SHOULD be in the mix somewhere!

I would have probably said drop shug and Lamont to make space for Webster & Walker however that would make the back 3 a bit weak defensively so i'd probably give Mclomu the nod with Webster on the bench & keep shug

As for mclumo, there seems to be another reason why he's not been selected other than his form. Did you read his interview in the Metro last week? He was very critical of FH and said that he was "better than anything Scotland has at the moment". I thought he sounded like an arsehole. I could very well be selling him short but perhaps Hadden feels he would cause more trouble than he's worth.

Who's shug?

Posted by garyipa on January 31, 2007 04:34 PM | Reply to this comment

Shug = Hugo

There are always personality clashes so that could, might make sense. could FH have intervened to stop his move from Borders??

On the point remember this is the guy who allegedly has previous for GBH/ABH so perhaps there is somehting in that too.

Sunday5,
I agree about the size of Hamilton, it's not easy to get on the pitch as a replacement at the end of an International game(last autumn tests) but he gave me strange feeling, very slow to go in the open scrums and slow again to help in the open game.
Maybe he did not have the time to be engaged enough.
A wee bit a big lump, i hope i'm wrong.
All the best for him and the Scottish team.

Good to see Kellock getting a start, he has played his heart out for us this season and is really coming onto a game. I personally wouldn't of picked Taylor, i think he has had his day, Petrie would of gotten my vote in this case, but i do hope he fronts up. I also hope Mr. Parks can have a good game, we never see him have a bad game for glasgow so lets hope he keeps his current form into saturday! Nikki Walker is atleast worth a place on the bench is he not? He's totally transformed since moving to wales! We should have the edge in the back just about, this one should be interesting! All the best to the boys for saturday.

No good the Poms trying to get inspiration from their cricket team. Go you Scotties, and hope Dan Parks has a blinder.

Looks as good a team as injuries allows-we'll miss White. Agree Beattie is not quite ready, he is going to be a really good number 8 soon, but he is not yet strong enough-Petrie showed how ball carrying should be done from the back against Cardiff. Don't think Taylor should be playing, he is vastly overrated (did nothing against Glasgow)-would rather see Petrie, a half fit Hogg, or even Barclay who has been outstanding for Glasgow, although this season probably comes too early for him. Hope Parks overcomes the jitters, he does well for Glasgow. Don't rate De Rollo, though it's hard to think who would replace him at present. How about Paterson at full back with Webster and Evans on the wings-go for sheer pace!! I have seen Walker since his Hawick days and don't think he has the class. Even in the internationals he has played he looks ordinary. Anyway-good luck to the boys on Sat.
PS-when does Barrow qualify for Scotland on residency???

did you see walker last saturday ???

Posted by mediumsizedal on February 2, 2007 08:09 PM | Reply to this comment

No-but I don't think I need to. Sunday5 has said it all above. However if he gets his chance and does well then excellent!!

I hope the boys step up the big hits in Jason White's absence, he is a brutal hitter and a good leader. Someone in the forwards needs to hit hard and put the Pom's on their backside. GO SCOTLAND !

Bannerman -Ireland-Boyd Glasgow HSFP

1938

Wilson Shaw scored the winning try

Hugh, I'm sure you have seen the "Dykes Family Album" in the Murrayfield library. There is some wonderful stuff in it. It doesn't just cover his rugby career, of course.

Anyone else fed up hearing about how we are going to lose 4 out of 5. Wish we as a country could just be a bit more positive

Posted by sunday5 on February 3, 2007 12:22 PM | Reply to this comment

I've not heard anyone saying we'll lose 4/5. Infact I just put a fiver on us to win, how's that for positive? I also put a fiver on Italy tho, so I think I got a bit carried away....
