Cup win no consolation for derby day disappointment

Sean Lineen says Ruaridh Jackson can bounce back after a disappointing night at Murrayfield
Glasgow coach Sean Lineen says retaining the 1872 Cup is no consolation after the 28-17 defeat to Edinburgh at Murrayfield.

“I am really disappointed and can take no consolation from the retention of the 1872 Cup – proud as we are to have achieved that," said Sean in the Evening Times.

“Our discipline was not great and losing the bonus point at the end sums it up. We were undermined by key decisions from important players for us at vital times and that is very frustrating.

“Congratulations to Edinburgh on their win. We knew they would give it everything, but we made it easy for them.”

Sean backed Ruaridh Jackson to recover from his disappointing night with the boot when Glasgow head to Thomond Park to meet Magners League leaders Munster on Saturday night. He said: “It was not one of Ruaridh’s better nights, but he will learn from this one and I am confident he will bounce back. As a team we are going to have to re-group for Munster as this was an opportunity that went a-begging. It is now up to the boys to show some character.

“We had a real opportunity to kick on and make inroads in the Magners League table, but we have not done that. That has been the story of our season so far.”
