A knee injury kept Chris out of rugby for eleven months and threatened his participation in this year's Rugby World Cup, but after playing in Glasgow's last two Magners League games he's detemined toprove his fitness to Scotland coach Andy Robinson.
Chris told Iain Morrison in today's Scotsman: "I think I'll know more about my fitness after the Leinster game. I know that Scotland have two warm-up games in August but I need to prove my fitness now. Time is an issue but I think I have enough to get match fit but playing in the Southern Hemisphere is an option we've looked at."
Chris also wants to repay Glasgow for sticking by him through his injury, especially after the team has lost a number of experienced players.
"Of course it's frustrating to see good players leave the club," says Chris, "but there are a variety of reason why it happens; it's not always about money, it could be lifestyle changes or family changes."
"But the reality is that we have lost a lot of players and not just guys like Dan Parks and Kelly Brown and Thom Evans to injury but guys like Tim Barker and Dan Turner and Mark McMillan, who were all big, big players for the club. You need a big squad to do anything in Europe and we've lost a lot of guys. It's interesting to look at what our squad will be compared to when I first arrived. It's massively different and it's frustrating because we had the making of a really good team (last season] then, for a variety of reasons, guys have moved on."
