Lessons must be learned

Al Kellock addressed the Glasgow support after Friday's match
Glasgow skipper Alastair Kellock says lesson must be learned from what has been a painful season for the Warriors.

Al was talking after Glasgow's final home game of the season which ended in a 37-29 defeat to Scarlets.

Al told the Evening Times: “We have to learn lessons from games like this for next term. This game encapsulated our whole season in 80 minutes.

“At times we played some great stuff and looked like we would take control only to let sloppy mistakes cost us.

“We wanted to go out on a high in front of a big home support, and although it was a cracking game it was not the winning send-off we wanted.”

Al had words of praise for Bernardo Stortoni who is one of six Warriors moving on at the end of the season.

Al said: “It was great for Bernie to get man of the match in his final home game. He has been a great servant for Glasgow.”

DTH van der Merwe continued his good form grabbing two tries and his skipper believes the flying winger can make an even bigger impact next term. He said: “DTH has shown he is an exceptional finisher. He has had a great season scoring as many tries as he has when it has not been a good season for us.”

Warriors head coach Sean Lineen says his young team will continue to develop.

He said: “We have one game to go with Leinster and we will do everything we can to go out on a high note in that one. But we can, and will learn, from this season and come back stronger.”

So SL thinks this young team will develop - well they have to - no option. IMHO SL will not see the year out!

I think it is madness to suggest the Lineen is at fault for last season.

Personally I think he will walk, perhaps if rumours are true to take over Bath and hopefully not to Edinburgh.

Next season is going to be tough and given the players whose contracts end at the end of next season then we could be faced with a mass exodus of players to cap it off.

I don't blame SL for this season. It was a write off from the start because of all the injuries and Dan parks leaving. Still waiting for a head to roll over that one!
I think SL claiming the team can develop is an empty promise however. What is the point of bringing through young players just to lose the best of them two seasons later and starting again???

I don't mean this to look like I'm blaming the players or staff for this BTW. How can they be expected to excell with zero backing from the brandy and cigar types at the SRU?

You're sure Lineen was entirely innocent in DP leaving then?

Ah, very good point. In all honesty I didn't consider him to be that stupid.... You certainly seem pretty plugged into things, what's your view?

Having said that, he just booted Bernie out. He may very well be that stupid!

Oh, come on gristedes, who do you think makes the decisions other that the head coach? McKie? He's an accountant and knows nothing of rugby. Sean is given a budget and decides who he wants in his team within that. Well, that is the way I will take it until I hear otherwise! Bernie and T-Bone were at the end of their careers.. fair enough. Jedi is a mistake unless there is evidence he will not be able to play regularly or he has a better replacement.

Well, if SL has his budget continualy cut by the likes of McKie then what choice does he have? As I said before it's only my view and I'm not in the circle.

On the Jedi/Bernie issue however I disagree with you there. Bernie was a teak tough and loyal player with another year (or two?) on his contract and as far as I can see another few years on the clock. He couldn't have been on huge money, he was virtually never injured, played his socks off wherever he was put and the crowd loved him.

Jedi on the other hand while also being a favourite of some and a good player when fit was continually injured. He was just always up on blocks for something or another. I must say I agree with binning him as he simply wasn't viable. I know folk say he was just showing his stuff after coming back from injury etc but history shows that yet another injury was around the corner. If he was worth the money, effort and space in the/a squad he would've been snapped up by another side as he is still a young guy.

I know this isn't a popular view but there you go. Bernie = Value for money. Jedi doesn't.

Ah, the magic circle .. no, I'm not in that either!

Yeah, itd be interesting to be a fly on the wall And witness how they come to some of these decisions. I nominate Alan for the circle! ;-)
