Warriors to take on the British Army

Glasgow Warriors will play the British Army in a friendly match on Friday 25 September at Scotstoun Stadium (ko 7.35pm).

Tickets for the game have gone on sale this evening from glasgowwarriors.org with season ticket members being entitiled to a £5 discount on tickets in the platinum section.

There is a strong link between Gregor Townsend's side and the armed forces, with recent signing Junior Bulumakau having been an infantryman with the Royal Scots Borderers prior to arriving at Scotstoun, scoring a try and being named man of the match in the most recent Babcock Trophy match between the Army and the Navy at Twickenham.

In addition, Glasgow and Scotland prop Ryan Grant was once a member of the Royal Signals, and turned out for the Army Under-23 and Combined Services Under-21 sides before turning professional.

With the GUINNESS PRO12 taking a break for a fortnight after tonight's encounter with Connacht, the match will provide a great opportunity for Gregor Townsend's side to build match fitness and give the coaches a chance to look at different players and combinations ahead of their return to PRO12 action on Friday 2 October, when the Warriors travel to play Munster.

Speaking about the upcoming fixture, Gregor Townsend said: "It'll be really good preparation for us before the GUINNESS PRO12 starts again.

"We're anticipating a tough test, as the Army are currently preparing for the International Defence Rugby Competition in October, so they're sure to be a well-drilled side.”

Glasgow Warriors will also be working with Tickets for Troops to provide free tickets to current servicemen and women, as well as those who have been medically discharged since 2001.

Tickets are priced from £10 for adults and concessions and all under-18 tickets are £5.

Only the Main and North Stands will be open for this game, therefore season ticket members will not be guaranteed their seat for this fixture but will have access to discounted platinum seats. Season ticket members who purchase tickets before Tuesday 22 September will be emailed a further matchday offer.
