Warriors would welcome back McLaren and McIlwham

Glasgow Warriors have said they would jump at the chance to bring Gordon McIlwham and James McLaren back to Hughenden.

Financial problems at Bordeaux-Begles could lead to the French club being forced to release the two Scottish internationalists and both players have indicated that they would like to return to the Warriors. Warriors coach Kiwi Searancke has made it clear that he wishes to strengthen the Glasgow squad and he is known to be an admirer of McLaren's play. Searancke also intends to bring in a hard scrummaging prop for next season and McIlwham, with his experience and versatility, could fit the bill.

Glasgow Chief Executive David Jordan said: "Of course we'd be interested in signing them again, but they must be interested in what we could offer them. We won't be able to offer them as much as they would make elsewhere in England or France but they would be back under the eyes of the Scotland selectors. We are negotiating contracts just now and the midfield and front row are two of our big target areas for players. Obviously, these particular players fall into these categories."

Searancke is also believed to be keen on signing two other big-name Exiles, Orrell centre Andy Craig and Bath wing Simon Danielli. Both players have indicated they would be interested in a move north of the border.
