Glasgow put their nightmare week behind them

After the week Glasgow Warriors have endured, no script could not have come up with a better ending than what happened at Hughenden tonight. After almost a season on the sidelines, Rory Kerr returned to inspire Glasgow to a well-deserved 45-33 victory over previously unbeaten Edinburgh.

Kerr opened the scoring after only five minutes but Glasgow looked hungry and dangerous throughout the game. Man of the Match, Glenn Metcalfe and Calvin Howarth each ran in two tries for the Warriors and stand-off Howarth kicked a further three conversions and three penalties.

Joe Naufahu was the other Warrior on the scoresheet as Glasgow showed the attacking style that had won them so many admirers before the trials and tribulations of this season.

Glasgow produced some flowing moves from the backs and found a fluency and rhythm that has been missing for most of this season. In comparison with so many recent performances from the Warriors the team seemed to enjoy the free reign given to them by caretaker coach Richie Dixon. What was happening on the park rubbed off on the Glasgow fans who have had so little to shout about recently.

Richie Dixon, Glasgow's caretaker coach, paid due credit to the fans. "We've taken a big step towards getting our own people back on side," he remarked after the match. "The crowd reacted to the players. Rory's try was the catalyst for everybody - the players on the field and the crowd. He's a local lad and the crowd got behind us from then on. But the players get the credit for that tonight because we've had no time to work on things - it was all down to them. I'll give them even more credit though if they carry this through to the Borders match next week."

It may have been one match, and Edinburgh may have been under strength, but the Glasgow players have renewed faith and hope in their supporters that there are much better times to come.
