Telfer admits Searancke appointment was a mistake

Jim Telfer has admitted that with the benefit of hindsight the appointment of Searancke and Steve Anderson was the wrong decision.

"It was an error of judgment on our part, but what he said and exposed about Scottish rugby, if you like, was true. He's very open and very honest but it was the way he said it that backfired on him."

"I've seen him and his assistant Steven Anderson coach and speak and they were probably in the wrong culture. I would like to think the things Kiwi said about the system were taken to heart because the problems we have in Scottish rugby just don't go away, we just paper over the cracks sometimes."

Telfer added: "I think Kiwi [Searancke] was, is, a very good coach. He has a lot of the same character as I have. He's very open, he's honest. It's interesting that Jason White when he left said...a lot of the problems and faults were with the players. At times I hear that players should take responsibility. I think it's time they did, instead of crying over spilt milk."
