Last season Kenny was given one brief appearance for Glasgow in a pre-season friendly against Exeter and then found himself out of favour with coaches Kiwi Searancke and Steve Anderson.
Kenny did have some problems with a shoulder injury which sidelined him for six weeks but when fit he found himself out of the frame with no real explanation despite some great performances for Glasgow Hawks. There were even inaccurate reports that Kenny would be released at the end of the season.
Kenny tells Kevin Ferrie in today's Herald: "I feel like I played a joker to stay on here," he said. "I feel as if I'm starting from scratch. I've been told by the coaches I will get that chance as well, so hopefully, I'm not just going to be judged on the one game.
"Last year was a wasted one for me in terms of professional rugby - I hope this will be my chance now. It's quite frightening because I think I'm the third oldest in the team and I don't have any real experience at professional level. I played four games before I turned pro, so I've played more professional games as an amateur than as a professional, but I have got to contribute a wee bit more because I feel as if I'm a senior player now," said the former Hawks man.
"We've lost a lot of senior players like Andy Nicol and Dave Hilton, our most experienced guys. We're still looking for leaders at present but they'll emerge when the games start."
The major changes at Glasgow mean that the squad is still a relatively unknown quantity. "There are players who look good in training but we don't know what they will be like until we get some real games in," said Kenny.
Kenny does promise that Glasgow will attempt to recapture the expansive style of rugby they had developed before last season. "It wasn't the best of styles we played last year, so hopefully this year they will see rugby being played. That's what Hugh Campbell and Sean Lineen are trying to bring; they are trying to make us a bit more instinctive, reading what's in front of us."
There was a good turnout at Hughenden last night as Glasgow fans met with club officials to discuss setting up a supporters' club. A number of issues were discussed including facilities for fans, supporters' travel and sponsorship opportunities. It's planned to make these meetings a regular feature for the season ahead so it's good to see an avenue of communication between supporters and Glasgow has been opened.
Glasgow officials say season tickets have been sent out to supporters and should reach them this week.
Glasgow have signed Dundee HSFP No.8 Alan Brown on a part-time contract. Alan joined Dundee HSFP from Morgan FP and quickly became a regular in the club's 1st XV. Alan has won age group caps at Under 18, 19 and 21 level and he's also played for the Scottish Students/Development Squad.
Former Glasgow prop Gordon Macilwham has been linked with a move to Llanelli. Munster are also thought to be interested in signing Macilwham.
