Dan stays focused on Saturday

Dan Parks has become a big favourite with the Glasgow support
Dan Parks has admitted that his elevation to the first Scotland training squad named by new coach Matt Williams came as something of a pleasant surprise, but he is not getting carried away just yet.

Saturday's clash with Edinburgh could see Dan go head-to-head with another contender for the Six Nations stand-off berth, Chris Paterson.

Dan said: "I know people will see this now as a kind of international head-to-head with me and Chris, but there's a long way for me to go yet. I was delighted to get the opportunity to come to Glasgow and I have really enjoyed it, and settled in quickly, but I was a bit surprised to be involved with the national squad so soon.

"It was the first time I'd been involved at all at that level, but it was great and the Scotland guys are a good bunch. It was a bit strange though coming to Scotland and hearing the national coach speaking with the same accent as me.

"Playing against Chris on Saturday will be a challenge, but I haven't put too much thought into it. I'm just trying to go into game as positive as I can. I will think about it more when we get to our final training session on Friday, and I hope I go well against him, but almost all the Edinburgh guys are part of the national squad so it's a very strong squad and I can't afford to not to keep my eye on the other 14 players as well.

Dan joined Glasgow after a successful season with Eastern Suburbs in Australia and he's determined to make an impact in his new home. "My grandfather was born in Scotland and that provided me with a reason to come here, and to play in Scotland. I see it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I don't want to let it pass me by. I like to think I can add something to Glasgow and perhaps Scotland, if I get the chance, from what I have learned back home.

"There are a few New Zealanders and Australians in the squad at Glasgow, but it is very much a Scotland squad - we all want Glasgow and Scotland to do well and win, and would love to be a part of that. I'm not looking beyond Saturday though, and with the confidence we've picked up from the past two wins I'm looking forward to it."
